All District 6 property owners are required to install a Sewage Treatment Effluent Pump (STEP) type system septic tank when home are built. Before installing septic tanks property owners must first apply for a permit from District 6.
Property owners are responsible for the cost of purchasing and installing the system. Step systems must meet District 6 requirements as explained in our STEP Tank Specifications and Standards document (see below to download a copy).
Inspections are required and performed by the District operator. Once inspections are successfully completed, District 6 takes over ownership and maintenance of the system. Property owners are required to complete a Step System Easement form. This gives the District the right to enter the property as necessary to perform maintenance on the system.
It is important that property owners insure they engage a contractor with STEP system experience. Incorrectly installed systems will not pass inspection and will have to be corrected and or replaced at the property owner’s expense.
